Love bites? Hate bites?

I know you’re all asking, “What did Sarah and Dave do for New Year’s?” I’ve tried starting a rumour that we were out at a rave, decked out with glow sticks and cat-in-the-hat hats, huffing nitrous oxide until four in the morning, but that rumour won’t seem to take. The truth is: we stayed in. It gets better: we also sang a lot of karaoke—although we didn’t actually rent a karaoke machine (and would that have made it better or worse?) Our cable provider, Rogers, has a new Karaoke on Demand feature that we guiltily indulge in every so often. I would guess the catalogue has somewhere around two-hundred songs, so at this point we’ve tried out every song we were interested in, and a few that we never should have attempted. Sarah’s fond of slightly older stuff—Boston, Huey Lewis, Backstreet Boys, and The Cardigans. I’m too cool for school, so I try to go current—Hot, Hot Heat, Fall-Out Boy, OK Go, and All American Rejects. I love songs where a guy is singing at the very edge of his range—whe...

What 's New With The Zoze

He's a bit of a paste-eater, I think we've mentioned that before. In all honesty, we suspect he was taken from his mom too early. But he's cute, and he's (above photo excepted) a pretty happy-go-lucky cat, so it's not like he's been short-changed in life. Further evidence to his being taken too soon from his mom (but not of his literal paste-eating), every time our boys have a stay-over at the cat B&B --during one of nine yearly cruises--he comes home having learned something new. Not exceptionally new (the cat's not making me a sandwich or anything) but he just learns basic skills that most normal cats have. Like meowing. What he does now is a sad approximation of a meow, but before we'd ever taken him in to the B&B literally no sound came out when he meowed. Really, there's two types of meowing he learned, but I'll get back to the second one. He also learned to knead there. Never did it for, like, the first six months of h...

Grandma’s Buddy

It’s Saturday night, and I’m on the couch, rocking the internet from my laptop (more on why this is remarkable in a second), and I’m watching a show called "Sexy Cam." Well, for the record, I’m not really watching the show; it’s just on in the background. Turns out, it’s just like the Just For Laughs gags show, except that the gags all end with some woman in her underpants. God bless French language TV. So, this is really meant to be a shout-out to Grandma’s Buddy (who doesn’t actually read this, so it’s more for Sarah’s sake). We picked up a wireless router many moons ago, but we (or at least, I) ran into problem after problem with it. Dropped signals, couldn’t connect, the desktop (directly connected to the modem) would shit the bed… When it comes to stuff like this I’m really just winging it, and my winging it was not working . Time and time again. So after months of this GD router totally not working, Sarah’s dad came and fixed everything in about twenty-five minut...

Why the spaghetti at our house has a funny taste

When up on the roof there arose such a clatter

Moe, Gunther, Sarah, and Dave wish everyone a happy and safe holiday. We'll see you soon.

If you don't like random cat pictures then you can go to hell

Apparently this guy was broken, because he just got fixed today. Next time you touch your gonads, think abour poor Moe. This guy on the other hand--not missing the first guy so much.

Gunther and Moe

I'd like to take this opportunity to introduce the newest members of clan MacDonald-McLean. First, Gunter. We'd had our eye on this guy for about two weeks, but the hours of the Anrprior Humane Society coincided pretty much exactly to our own work hours. He was a handsome guy, described as talkative and affectionate, and frankly, we just liked the name. He's the alpha male, or so he'd like to have you believe, but he's run off and hid like a pansy at least six times in the last two days. Oh, and he grumbles like a person. If he's pissed, you'll know it. But he's all talk. For the most part, he's a good guy. And he's also fond of giving headbutts of love. Next is Morris, who I like to call Moe, and Sarah likes to call Snowpants. (And when we're feeling particularly witty: Moepants Snowpants.) We weren't looking for a young guy, or a long haired cat, but this guy seduced me with a look after about ten seconds. (When I first met Sarah, it t...
