Ooh then we touched, then we sang, about the lovin’ things.

Does anyone else feel like there’s a Journey renaissance going on right now? I can’t remember a day in the last two weeks where I haven’t heard either “Any Way You Want It,” “Wheel in the Sky,” “Only the Lonely,” Don't Stop Believin',” or “Oh Sherry” (and yeah, nitpickers, I know that last one’s just Steve Perry, but whatever). Every day. And if I’m not hearing it, I’m reading about it. It’s not omnipresent—it’s not like when you hear four Duran Duran songs on the radio in quick succession and automatically conclude that Simon Lebon has died—it’s just constant. I have mostly my iPod to blame. I’ve been obsessed with trying to fill its near-limitless capacity, throwing—among other things—Journey’s Greatest Hits on there (which is more Sarah’s than mine). Since then, the Random button doesn’t seem all that random. I think whoever wrote the algorithm for that is probably the biggest fucking Journey fan in the world. There’s probably four other random bands that Algorithm Boy had a boner for, and if I ever find the combination (maybe Yes, Dan Fogelberg, and The Moody Blues) my iPod will go into Maximum Overdrive.

In other news, I’m still alive.

Glad to see you're still around, Dave!

My MP3 player also has a seeming pattern to its 'random' selections. I can basically predict what songs are going to come next. And the guy who wrote the random programming for mine apparently loves Montell Jordan's "This is How We Do It" and anything by Rascal Flatts.

Welcome back!

The radio station I listen to is like that - on weekends, they seem to have an Elton John-Billy Joel lovefest goin' on. Not an hour passes when I'm not treated to the sounds of "Rocket Man" or "Piano Man".

Given that over a third of the songs on my iPod are Rufus Wainwright, he turns up pretty frequently.

Pssst...

When you speak about the randomizer on your iPod, it's called algorhythm.

Sheesh.

Why is the third Brandenburg Concerto always followed by Kool Keith's Bitch Gets No Love?

And it continues. We we out Xmas shopping this evening, and what happened to be playing at the first store? Journey's "Don't Stop Believin'". God, I love Journey. Steve Perry kicks all kinds of ass.

I want to hurt you just to hear you screaming my name ...

That's what's playing on my iPod right now. Yes, I do realize that it's 3:45 am where I come from and I really should be sleeping.

My bathroom has a weird wormhole where only Toni Braxton's "Unbreak My Heart" can be heard, because Jason inexplicably knows all the words, and according to him, porcelain makes for great accoustics. So if the worst you have is Journey, count yourself lucky.

I should add...

... that two people were instrumental in my joining Twitter. First, Isha . She sent out an article on it when the application was still brand new. (And I remember thinking, "Screw that noise. Like I need more online commitments.) Second was Rebecca . She joined up just a short while ago, claiming she hadn't met a bandwidth she didn't like . (And then she disappeared entirely from the internets .) It looked nice and pretty over there on her sidebar, and then I got a little jealous. The rest: history. And for those unobservant among you ( Jorge ), the Twitter feed is right there on my sidebar, replacing the old Radio 3 player that I loved, but that I think scared the bejezus out of a lot of people. Also, everyone should join Twitter. I'm needing some diversions , people.
Change Two: Drink More Water Such a simple thing, yet something I just can't seem to find the time to do. About the only water I drink in your average day is whatever sweat happens to trickle off my mustache. Hydration (so the smart people tell me) is a good thing. I'm less fatigued when I drink water. I'm less hungry when I drink water. I'm even less grumpy when I drink water. I promise you nothing especially impressive. Eight glass a day ain't gonna happen. I'm shooting for two on average; two trendy, metallic, not gonna bleed Bisphenol A into my system bottles of water. I know were off to a rip-roaring start, what with the list-making and the hydration, but I'll try to get crazier with future changes. Stuff like: go to work drunk more, and buy a pair of leather pants. For now, let me ease into it.

Discuss Amongst Yourselves - January 30th, 2006

In case you don’t read my comments (and if not, you’re nuts cause that’s where all the good stuff is), Courtney has just declared herself movie illiterate. So, if you had to recommend five essential movies that everyone should see, what would they be? Let me stress: only five. For those of you with break-the-rules tendencies (like--I dunno--just picking a name out of the air... Jorge ?), your comment gets chucked out. Give’r.
